Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the self-study course experience like?

You can watch video lessons through your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. You will create your own learning schedule, although we highly recommend that you take 1 to 2 weeks to complete a single chapter. Since the course content builds on itself, this will make the course feel more cohesive and your overall course experience more impactful.

  • Will I be able to pause the video in the middle of a lesson?

Absolutely. This makes it possible for you to make notes, as you wish, and absorb the concepts shared at your own pace.

  • May I share my login credentials with other colleagues in my organization?

No. Course registration is per individual. Sharing your login privileges with individuals who have not paid for the course is considered a copyright violation. Individuals who are not appropriately registered for the course are also not eligible for a Certificate of Completion or CEUs. We track each student's learning journey, so that we may better support your learning goals. On a shared account, it would be hard for an individual to keep track of their progress through the course. The system is designed to track student progress and resume course content where they left off. As such, it's impossible for the experience to be replicated for more than one individual.

  • What is your refund policy?

Our goal is to make sure that you have the best learning experience possible. If Evolve Online Learning isn’t for you, then email us within 10 days of the date of your purchase, and we’ll offer a full refund for your course. Courses that are more than 50% complete are exempt from the refund policy. Send refund requests to [email protected].

  • Are CEUs available for this course?

Yes. This course is pre-approved for 5 continuing education hours available through the National Association of Long-Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).

  • Who do I contact, if I have questions along the way?

Send your questions to [email protected].

Learn About the Faculty

Denise Hyde, PharmD, was inspired by person-directed care, when she learned about The Eden Alternative, and the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom. As a pharmacist, she had an epiphany that all of the medication recommendations in the world would not be sufficient enough to improve quality of life for older people.

No stranger to organizational change, Denise has firsthand experience initiating and implementing person-directed care (and all of the challenges along the way). Her change journey began in a Nebraska long-term care community and then expanded through her tenure as a mid-west Eden Alternative Regional Coordinator – a role that involved mentoring organizations committed to change across six states. In 2009, she joined the Eden Alternative Home Office Team as Community Builder and has been learning from, and coaching, hundreds of core leadership teams in implementing person-directed care across the US and Canada ever since.

Rebecca Priest, MS, LNHA Rebecca Priest has over 20 years experience in Long term care as a clinician and operations leader in non for profit settings. She also founded a successful mobile mindfulness business which invests in those who work in care roles in the area. She is deeply motivated to improve the experience of people who cannot live their lives independent of formal support from others and seeks to make a positive impact in the quality of experience that carers encounter in our world wherever they are.

She hopes to contribute to a society where everyone has the opportunity to pursue fullness of human expression at the pace and depth they desire. The Eden alternative has been an influential part of her personal and professional growth and she hopes others find similar warmth from the fire lit in her early in her career by this special organization.

Kristi Doan Kristi Doan, MA was introduced to The Eden Alternative in 2018 when her first career in addiction treatment ended and her next career in aging services began. She found that working in an Eden community healed a piece of her heart and soul and she wanted to be a part of this culture change movement in a much bigger way. In 2022, Kristi realized that dream by joining The Eden Alternative home team as a Community Builder. She brings over 15 years of experience in creating and running trainings, managing teams through transitions, and facilitating growth in others. She has a passion for consulting, educating, and coaching teams implementing person-directed care.

Kristine Angevine began exploring person-directed care when she enrolled in a course she knew nothing about – Certified Eden Associate Training. She brings an in-depth knowledge of creating small homes within organizations, with a focus on empowered work teams and person-directed care. Having strong roots in the food and dining industry, Kris has applied this knowledge to what the dining experience looks like through a person-directed lens. She was the Guide for the Penfield Green House Homes in Rochester, NY for the first 5 years of operations and a Guide/Operations Manager for various long-term care “neighborhoods”. An Eden Educator since 2012, Kris has had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of change agents. She joined the Eden Alternative Home Office Team in November 2018. As a Community Builder, Kris collaborates with her colleague Denise Hyde, as a coach, mentor, and educator for organizational teams across the US and Canada.

Laura Beck, MPAff, discovered The Eden Alternative in the mid 1990’s as a family member. Given only 30 days to find a new nursing home for her father, she stumbled onto a community that was practicing this person-directed approach… and she was hooked.  An Eden Educator since 2004, Laura has trained hundreds of change agents and has worked with aging specialists worldwide in the development of curricula, educational materials, and messaging that promote the practice of person-directed care. As the daughter of an Eden-nurtured Elder who lived with Alzheimer’s disease, she has experienced first-hand the powerful effect of person-directed care, particularly as it impacts the lives of individuals living with dementia.  A member of the Eden Alternative Home Office Team since 2003, Laura served as Learning and Development Guide. Her efforts include adapting Eden Alternative education for home and community-based services.

Currently, Laura is a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist/Educator and a Mind/Body coach.https://www.laurabecksomatics.com/

Meredith Martin first learned about The Eden Alternative as a college student focused on early childhood development. Inspired by the approach, she switched gears and set her sights on a career in aging services. She began actively applying The Eden Alternative® in 2003 as a leader in an Eden Registry Member Organization. An Eden Educator since 2006, she has taught hundreds of change agents about the impact of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom and the power of person-directed care.  In 2009, she joined the Eden Alternative Home Office Team. As Education Coordinator, Meredith manages the coordination of all educational events and the growth and development of Eden Educators, as well as cultivating new, potential educational initiatives and opportunities, such as Eden Alternative LIVE.
